5 Top Tips For Bedroom Projects

1. Know Your Space

If your bedroom is small, there is no reason it can’t be full of character. White walls, contrasting against dark wood furniture; creates a dramatic and stylish design. Or do you see yourself in a small boutique hotel inspired bedroom space? Bedrooms decorated with patterned wall paper, mirrored furniture and rich textures would create an inviting space! Mirrored finishes would also create the illusion of more space. Large bedrooms allow you the space to be creative and to possibly use a number of different furniture finishes within one space.

2. Maximise Storage

Bespoke fitted furniture allows every inch of a room to be utilised for storage, without compromising on design. Floor to ceiling fitted bedroom wardrobes looks sleek and boasts efficiency. Make the furniture fit your needs. Do you have a closet full of shoes that need a tidy and ordered home? If so shelving as well as hanging space would need to be incorporated into your bedroom design. See this blog for some useful storage ideas – House & Garden Magazine.

3. Lighting

The mood and tone of a room can be set by the lighting design. A bedroom needs to be a calming yet functional environment. Bright lighting is required to find that suit you need or to ensure your make-up is on point; however soft lighting is essential when it is time to unwind and rest. Lights on a dimmer switch are great for bedrooms. Lamps also draw attention to areas of the room, creating light and shade detail. In-built lighting within your bespoke bedroom furniture is a worthy indulgence. Seeing your neatly aligned clothes light up as you open your wardrobe doors is an experience to be savoured. Would you pick your favourite colour; maybe soft pink, electric blue, gold or white? Look at Elle Decor for lighting inspiration.

4. Colour Scheme

If you are an indecisive person or you are prone to changing your mind when it comes to colour schemes; opt for pale base tones and inject a splash of colour. For example a single burnt orange pillow could bring pale green and white tones to life. Base tones such as ivory, white and wood can be a good idea if you want to have the option to change colour schemes within your bedroom over time. Choosing a cappuccino coloured wardrobe may seem like a good idea, until you want to re-decorate your room in fresh white and greys. For help choosing your colour scheme see Elle Decoration Colour.

5. Budget

Know your budget. Your dream bedroom wardrobes may be embellished with gold leaf and swarovski crystals, but if you don’t have the bank balance its time to re think! It is good to talk through your design preference with your bedroom designer, as this can be taken into account when considering materials, finishes and design. Gold leaf may be out of the question, but you may be able to look at gold handles, hinges and lighting to create that touch of glamour to your bedroom, without breaking the bank.
